Regina Heiser is a German contemporary artist based in Darmstadt. Her early environment, shaped by music, theatre and creative practice, formed her
sensitivity to space, atmosphere and visual perception.
Before fully committing herself to art, Heiser worked in education and later in applied design. She trained in graphic design and began an independent art
study programme in Frankfurt, gradually developing an artistic language that moves between intuition, structure and conceptual clarity.
Working across painting, installation and photography, Heiser’s practice is
informed by architecture, fashion photography, psychology, spatial perception
and inner images. Her works have been presented in solo and group exhibitions
in Germany and internationally.
Artist Statement
Between Surface and Meaning
My artistic practice moves within the tension between visibility and absence, structure and dissolution. Working with painting, photography and installation,
I explore how colour, material and space enter into relation — and how meaning shifts when central elements are missing, reduced or displaced.
I am interested not only in what is visible, but above all in what is left out within
the pictorial space. The missing element becomes an active part of the work: it opens gaps, creates tension and invites viewers to bring in their own memories, projections and interpretations.
Layering, fragmentation and abstraction are central methods in my practice. In
the series leave out, the central subject deliberately disappears from the image. What remains are space, shadows, colour fields and traces. In my reinterpretations of cover images, interiors, architecture and art-historical references, I explore how images remain readable when familiar points of orientation are removed.
My work draws inspiration from architecture, interior design, editorial design, fashion photography, American realism and psychological atmospheres.
I understand my works as condensations of impression, perception and
silence — between surface and meaning.
